THE PROBLEM The system is broken. Princeton study proved that the average American citizen has a near-zero impact on public policy.
THE MISSION We are building GovTech 2.0. We are using AI to make the government efficient, transparent, and responsive. We are building the tools to parse the complexity of representation and give the American voter a voice that can finally compete with big money.
Why This Role Exists
SureVoter's value depends on structured, reliable civic data. Government records are buried in PDFs, legislative feeds are inconsistent, and public data sources change without warning. This role builds and maintains the data pipelines that turn messy real-world civic information into clean, queryable data that powers the AI layer.
How We Work
Every person at SureVoter uses AI daily as a core part of how they think, build, and ship. We use AI to write code, debug pipelines, and accelerate decisions. If you're someone who has been actively adopting AI tools into your workflow and pushing the boundaries of what's possible with them, you'll fit right in. If you're waiting for AI to prove itself before you engage, this isn't the right environment. We're building an AI-native product and we operate as an AI-native team.
What You'll Do
Data Pipeline Development (60%)
- Build and maintain ETL pipelines that ingest civic data from government APIs, legislative feeds, public records, and unstructured sources (PDFs, HTML)
- Design data models and schemas that structure civic information by jurisdiction, issue, and legislative stage
- Implement data validation, quality checks, and monitoring to catch issues before they reach production
- Build incremental processing pipelines that handle updates without full reloads
- Work with the Civic Intelligence Lead to translate taxonomy requirements into technical implementations
Data Infrastructure (25%)
- Manage data storage across Postgres and vector databases (Qdrant)
- Optimize query performance for the retrieval patterns the AI layer needs
- Build data versioning and lineage tracking so any piece of data can be traced to its source
- Implement data archival and retention policies
Collaboration & Quality (15%)
- Work closely with the AI Engineer to ensure retrieval pipelines have the context they need
- Partner with the Civic Intelligence Lead on data source validation and onboarding
- Build internal tooling for data exploration and debugging
- Document data schemas, pipelines, and dependencies
What We're Looking For
Required
- 4+ years of data engineering experience building production ETL pipelines
- Strong Python skills for data processing
- Experience with SQL and relational databases (Postgres preferred)
- Familiarity with unstructured data extraction (PDFs, HTML scraping, document parsing)
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or similar)
- Understanding of data quality frameworks and validation patterns
- Active user of AI coding tools and always looking for new ways to accelerate
Preferred
- Experience with civic data, government APIs, or public records
- Familiarity with vector databases and embedding pipelines
- Experience with data versioning tools (DVC, lakeFS)
- Background in news, policy, or public-interest technology
- Experience at an early-stage startup where you built data infrastructure from scratch
What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
- Civic data pipelines are running reliably, ingesting data from multiple government and public sources
- Data quality is monitored and issues are caught before they affect users
- The AI layer has access to structured, well-documented civic data with clear provenance
- New data sources can be onboarded in days, not weeks
Why SureVoter
This is an agentic startup building something that actually matters. There's no large team, no layers of management, no legacy system. You'll build the AI foundation of a civic technology platform from scratch, designed to make civic participation more accessible.
We're looking for senior people who have done this before and want to do it again for something bigger. This is a small team moving fast on a hard problem. The pace is startup pace. The commitment is real. If you get energy from building at full speed alongside people who are all-in, this is going to be a lot of fun.
If that sounds like your kind of thing, we should talk.
THE OPPORTUNITY Some startups disrupt taxi cabs and marketing widgets. Others dare to do something more extraordinary. We will disrupt the dysfunction of the Governments to help them run more efficiently - starting with the United States.
Join us. Let’s bring power back to the people.
