Why This Role Exists
SureVoter is not a traditional web app with AI bolted on. AI is the core product. It powers every user interaction, every explanation, every data synthesis. This role owns the design and implementation of product features end-to-end, working across frontend, backend, and AI systems to build an experience that users trust.

Every person at SureVoter uses AI daily as a core part of how they think, build, and ship. We use AI to write code, research problems, synthesize information, prototype, and accelerate decisions. If you're someone who has been actively adopting AI tools into your workflow and pushing the boundaries of what's possible with them, you'll fit right in. If you're waiting for AI to prove itself before you engage, this isn't the right environment. We're building an AI-native product and we operate as an AI-native team.
What You'll Do
Product Engineering (60%)
- Own product features end-to-end: from architecture through implementation, deployment, and monitoring
- Build the user-facing product experience, a conversational AI interface connected to structured civic data
- Design, architect, and implement scalable backend APIs using TypeScript/Node.js (NestJS)
- Implement user onboarding flows that progressively build engagement
- Build data-driven communication products (email, notifications) organized by topic and geography
- Build internal and external dashboards that surface aggregated, anonymized insights
AI Integration (25%)
- Integrate LLM-powered features using structured context, retrieval pipelines, and safety guardrails
- Work closely with the AI Engineer to bring AI capabilities into production with appropriate latency, error handling, and fallback behavior
- Build product-level guardrails that ensure the system explains but never prescribes
- Collaborate on prompt engineering solutions and RAG architectures
Infrastructure & Quality (15%)
- Make architectural tradeoffs appropriate for an early-stage startup: ship fast, but build foundations that scale
- Implement data-stream separation at the application layer across different access levels
- Own testing strategy and production reliability for product services
What We're Looking For
Required
- 5+ years shipping production software, with strong full-stack capabilities
- Strong TypeScript/Node.js experience, including backend frameworks (NestJS, Fastify, Express)
- Proficiency in Python for backend services and AI integration
- Experience building and deploying web applications with modern frameworks (React, Next.js, Astro)
- Hands-on experience integrating LLMs into production products
- Strong API design skills
- Product sense: you make tradeoffs based on user impact, not just technical elegance
- Active user of AI coding tools and always looking for new ways to accelerate
Preferred
- Experience at an early-stage startup where you owned product features end-to-end
- Familiarity with real-time data pipelines, event-driven architectures, or streaming systems
- Experience building multi-tenant systems with data isolation requirements
- Interest or experience in civic technology, government data, or public-interest platforms
- Understanding of AI/ML concepts: embeddings, vector databases, semantic search
- Data privacy and compliance experience (CCPA, GDPR)
What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
- The core product is live: users can have a personalized AI conversation about civic topics that affect their lives
- The onboarding funnel is working: new users engage, return, and convert at measurable rates
- Communication and distribution infrastructure is in place and driving organic growth
- The system is reliable, fast, and feels trustworthy
